FLOWER FARM
What started as a small cutting garden at the front of the Rebel Rebel house has now expanded into a large field nestled amongst woodland, filled with No Dig flower beds of seasonal organically grown blooms. We pride ourselves on using locally sourced flowers where possible in London, but when the opportunity came in Italy to grow our own flowers we jumped at the chance. Growing everything from sunflowers to tomatoes, we have an extensive range of flowers to choose from.
We now run a range of workshops and bespoke courses and services from the flower farm.
WEDDING FLOWERS
ACTIVITY AT THE FLOWER FARM
MARCH 2025
March has been busy in the field, with narcissus and hyacinths springing to life - and us too! We have been prepping our beds and sowing seeds seeds and more seeds!! We have also divided and potted up all of our dahlia tubers and sown seeds from the dahlias we grew last year - the dahlias grown from seed are never the same and we love producing a few new varieties every year! It's always exciting to see what new and unique beauties spring into life later in the season.
Now we have two polytunnels we are using the original tunnel to grow some early plants - we have a few ranunculus in flower and a mix of cosmos, zinnia, larkspur, nigella and sweetpea. The weather in the mountains can be quite temperamental in the spring (well...always!!) so we are trying to get a head start on some early blooms which are well protected from the elements. We have even put irrigation in there - we have really pimped our polytunnel!! We have hardened off a few larkspur and pot marigold that were sown last autumn and planted them outside with a light frost cover - so far they are braving the elements really well, we just hope there will be no sudden spring snow like we had at the end of April 2024!
FEBRUARY 2025
February has been an exciting month with the arrival of our new polytunnel! We have placed it in a sunny spot in the field, close to the pergola, which makes it a great space to work. We lost a couple of trees next to where the polytunnel is placed, and we realised that the stumps were perfectly positioned for a bench and small table - for those little moments we get a chance to relax and reflect on the farm with a refreshing cup of tea (or glass of wine?!). It's always sad to lose a tree, but if we can utilise the stumps they remain part of the story of the farm. We are a sentimental bunch when it comes to nature, so this suits us very well!
JANUARY 2025
We have had some crazy wind storms here in the Garfagnana over the winter, and during December this caused a tree to fall on our precious polytunnel! At first we thought it was destroyed but on closer inspection discovered only the door and first section were bent out of shape. With the help of our trusty handyman we have saved it by making it a metre shorter. We have also placed an order for our second polytunnel which is really exciting... watch this space!
AUGUST 2021
In full bloom now!
JUNE 2021
The flowers are beginning to bloom, lots more seedlings on their way so all our nurturing is paying off :)
